Just like the trail Hansel and Gretel left to mark their way, “breadcrumbs” on this site are used to locate your position. You can click on any of the links in the list to reach any higher level in the site’s hierarchy.

Ask Oscar

Need to find out how many films made in New Zealand were nominated for Visual Effects between 1972 and 2003? Then Ask Oscar! Here you’ll find advanced search capabilities that go beyond the simple queries you can make with Quick Search. You’ll also be able to select from listings of every film or person ever nominated for an award, as well as get additional information on statistics, rules, and see all the films eligible for awards in a given year. It’s easy and the results just might surprise you!

Short Subjects

Short Subjects (now called “Short Films”) became an Academy Award category in 1931-32. The category recognizes animated and live-action films of three reels in length (about 30 minutes) or under. On this sight, Short Subjects are essays, lists, and references to subjects that are not covered in other areas. They are intended to be an overview of a subject rather than an in-depth discussion. Hopefully, they will add to your understanding and appreciation of the movie industry.

The Grand Bijou
Trivia Machine

Here, our exclusive trivia machine churns out challenging quizzes on Academy Award trivia. You’ll be able to test your knowledge on (eventually) every Academy Award winning feature film, and additional topics that may come to mind. You’ll even be able to print a Certificate of Achievement to impress your easily-impressed friends!

Intermission

As much as we might like to, we can’t watch movies all the time. Sometimes we just feel like playing. In between movies, the Intermission section offers games, puzzles, and other amusements to challenge your abilities (and waste a little time). Naturally, they all have movie-related themes.

XHTML and CSS
Validation

Although we do not display these logos on every page of the site, every page has been validated by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to ensure that only standards-compliant XHTML and CSS code is used. It doesn’t really matter if you know what that means. But for Internet users everywhere, it ensures that the pages on this site will look as they were intended in all modern browsers.

Images of Academy Award winning films, actors and actresses, as well as posters and Academy publications are peppered throughout the site. They’ll show up whenever you Ask Oscar about a relevant topic, or open many of the Short Subjects. The Gallery, however, allows you to see an overview of many of the major categories of images and jump to any one of them immediately.
